Working at Height (Use of Ladders)

Outline

This half day practically-based course is aimed at staff who carry out work at height within school. The course will be suitable for Caretakers, Site Managers, ICT staff, PE staff and any other staff who carry out work at height. It is suitable as an induction or a refresher course. This course enables Head Teachers to ensure they meet the requirements of current Health and Safety Legislation and (for maintained schools) the Local Authority’s Working at Height Policy. Please note that this course has a practical element involving external ladder use so comfortable and warm clothing and suitable footwear should be worn by delegates attending the course.

There are places available on this value for money course, which is open to all schools and academies. Refreshments are not provided.

This working at height course combines the theory and some practical tuition in relation to Working at Height. The course covers the following areas:

1. The law relating to working at height
2. Reasons why people fall whilst working at height
3. Safety checks for equipment used to work at height
4. How to safely erect and use ladders

Venue details: Claremont Centre, Claremont Road, Sale, M33 7DZ. Parking is available at the venue.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course delegates will have:

An understanding of the Work at Height Regulations and how to comply
Increased confidence and awareness of safe working practices when working at height
Increased confidence and awareness of safe working practices with ladders and safety related equipment
An understanding of the advantages and limitations of types of ladders
An understanding of how to safely erect ladders
